Cygnus Mentoring and Professional Development held its first national conference on 'Mentoring in Medicine' at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on 20-21 st April 2004 . We had a good attendance of delegates, speakers and workshop facilitators throughout the country and indeed two from outside the UK .
Our aim was to explore the broad spectrum of mentoring and its application to personal development within the organisation of the health service. Its scope ranged from the management of individual transition on the first day to recognising and supporting doctors in difficulty on the second.
The conference offered plenty of opportunity for networking and at the dinner in the evening Dr Roger Neighbour, the President of the Royal College of General Practitioners entertained us with a light-hearted speech.
As with many successful conferences there were as many questions as there were answers at the end of the conference. The chairman's opening remarks at the beginning of the second day outline many of the issues raised [ details as .pdf ] . There were lively interchanges of ideas and a breadth of experience shared during the conference from attendees throughout the UK .
We have included the speakers and workshop facilitators' presentations on this site. Please feel free to download them. Should you wish for any further information do not hesitate to contact the Cygnus team.
